"This portrait of my brother on his phone resulted from a narrative assignment. Rather than interacting with the five other people in the car, my brother played a game on his phone instead. I am interested in how our screens can make us feel as if we are in our own little bubbles, where we can retreat to distract ourselves from unpleasant or uncomfortable situations. Though we often use our smartphones as distractions to close ourselves off, we are not as invisible to others as we may seem. Interestingly, my brother was horrified by the double chin he has in this drawing, but even more so that that it is how he looks every time he turns on his phone."
